Mahalakshmi Ashtakam is a hymn in praise of Goddess Mahalakshmi, who is the deity of Wealth, Prosperity, and Abundance. The eight stanzas of this stotram describe and praise the eight divine forms of the Goddess Lakshmi.

In Padma Purana, the Mahalakshmi Ashtakam is chanted by Lord Indra in praise of Goddess Mahalakshmi. The Ashtalakshmi Stotram lyrics are composed in a simple way such that a devotee can easily remember and recite the hymn. Also, the Ashtalakshmi stotram meaning gives a clear picture of every form and its divine aspects.

This prayer, which is usually chanted during ceremonies and festivals dedicated to Maha Lakshmi, also includes three verses of ‘phala shruti’ (meaning ‘hearing the benefits’), where the benefits of this prayer are described.

नमस्तेऽस्तु महामाये श्रीपीठे सुरपूजिते ।
शंखचक्रगदाहस्ते महालक्ष्मी नमोऽस्तुते ।।1।।

नमस्ते गरुडारूढ़े कोलासुरभयंकरि ।
सर्वपापहरे देवि महालक्ष्मी नमोऽस्तुते ।।2।।

सर्वज्ञे सर्ववरदे सर्वदुष्टभयंकरि ।
सर्वदुःख हरे देवि महालक्ष्मी नमोऽस्तुते ।।3।।

सिद्धिबुद्धिप्रदे देवि भुक्तिमुक्ति प्रदायिनी ।
मन्त्रमूर्ते सदा देवि महालक्ष्मी नमोऽस्तुते ।।4।।

आद्यंतरहिते देवि आद्यशक्ति महेश्वरि ।
योगजे योगसंभूते महालक्ष्मी नमोऽस्तुते ।।5।।

स्थूलसूक्ष्ममहारौद्रे महाशक्ति महोदरि ।
महापापहरे देवि महालक्ष्मी नमोऽस्तुते ।।6।।

पद्मासनस्थिते देवि परब्रह्म स्वरुपिणि ।
परमेशि जगन्मातर्महालक्ष्मी नमोऽस्तुते ।।7।।

श्वेताम्बरधरे देवि नानालन्कारभूषिते ।
जगत्स्थिते जगन्मातर्महालक्ष्मी नमोऽस्तुते ।।8।।

महालक्ष्म्यष्टकंस्तोत्रं य: पठेद्भक्तिमान्नर: ।
सर्वसिद्धिमवापनोति राज्यं प्रापनोति सर्वदा ।।

एककाले पठेन्नित्यं महापापविनाशनं ।
द्विकालं य: पठेन्नित्यं धननान्यसमन्वित: ।।

त्रिकालं य: पठेन्नित्यं महाशत्रुविनाशनम् ।
महालक्ष्मी भवेन्नित्यं प्रसन्ना वरदा शुभा ।।

Mahalakshmi Ashtakam Meaning

O Goddess Mahalakshmi I salute and bow to you. One who resides in Sripetha and is adored by all the Gods and demi-gods.
Holding a conch, discus, and mace Salutations to you or I bow to you.

I bow to the one who is mounted on Garuda/eagle and who destroyed the terrible Kolhasura. The Goddess who removes all the sins, O Mahalakshmi I bow to you.

One who knows all (sarvagna), is ever pervading eliminates sinners, and removes sorrows. I offer oblations to that Mahalakshmi.

I pray to the goddess Mahalakshmi who bestows siddhi (Sucess or accomplishment), buddhi (intelligence), and who grants worldly pleasures (bukthi) as well as liberation (Mukti). The one who is always an embodied form of mantra, Goddess Mahalakshmi I bow to you.

Goddess Mahalakshmi has no beginning or end whom the concept of time-space can’t touch, who emerges from yoga and sustains it; I offer my prayer to thee.

Who covers the whole universe-who is manifested yet is unmanifest, thou is the eliminator of sins, accept my prostrations.

I bow before Mahalakshmi who is seated in lotus posture and is the supreme element of this universe and a mother to all beings.

Who is attired in white and is adorned by different types of jewelry, O mother of this universe my salutations to you.

Phala Shruti

The one who recites this Mahalakshmi Ashtakam stotram with devotion.
Will attain all the siddhi’s (accomplishments) and high status always.

Reciting this stotra once daily (usually morning) will destroy all the great sins.

Reciting it twice daily (usually morning and evening) will grant you wealth and grains.

Reciting this stotram thrice daily (morning, afternoon, and evening) in three kalas will get benefitted by destroying all the enmity and hatred.
Also, the Goddess Mahalakshmi will be pleased and gives them all the boons and good luck.
