A complete list of Gurpurabs in 2017 is given on this page. The important days associated with Sikh gurus are called as ‘Gurpurab’. The literal meaning of the word Gurpurab is ‘day assocated with Guru’ and it is made of two words Guru and Purb.

Many people outside Punjab assume that Birthday of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji as the meaning of Gurpurab. It include the birthdays (Parkash Utsav or Prakash Diwas), Gurgadi diwas and Jyoti-Jot day of 10 Gurus. Bithdays of some bhagats, whose teachings are included in Guru Granth Sahib, are also celebrated. The days associated with Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji like Sampuranta Diwas, First Parkash Day and Gurgadi Diwas are also celebrated.
Sikh history is full of martyrs. Arjan Dev Ji, Guru Teg Bahdar Ji, Char Sahibzade, Mata Gujjri Ji and a large number of sikhs have sacrificed there lives for the good. The pages of history from the beginning of sikhism to the recent times are full of bravery and sacrifices. Shaheedi diwas (martyrdom day) of great martyrs and days of some great historic events like Khalsa Sajna Diwas are also observed.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji Gurpurab 2017

The parkash diwas or birthday gurpurab of Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji is on 5 January 2017 (Thursday). Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji was born in 1666 at Patna Sahib, Bihar. This year we are celebrating 350th birthday of Guru ji and there will be mega state level functions in Bihar, Punjab and other parts of the country.
Guru Gobind Singh ji is termed as Sant Sipahi (Saint & Soldier) who founded the Khalsa panth to stand against the atrocities and forced conversions by muslim rulers. He sacrified his whole family for the humanity.
