Gavpalan : A Unique Maharashtra Ritual
Gavpalan

‘Gavpalan’ is an ancient tradition a unique tradition in a few villages in the coastal belt of Konkan in Maharashtra. The villagers have a ritual where the whole villagers along with their cattle, pets & daily requirements, vacate the village for 3 nights and stay outdoors, outside the periphery of the village, leaving no living being inside. This happens every 3 to 4 years and this tradition is going on for centuries.
