Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary to be celebrated as a year-long world event. There will be a two-year-long celebration with a range of cultural events related to Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’s ideologies. The two years long celebration starts from October 2, 2018, to October 2, 2020.

Mahatma Gandhi’s ideologies and beliefs continue to inspire every section of society throughout the world. Mahatma Gandhi influenced and inspired many world leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Dalai Lama, President Barack Obama, Aung San Suu Kyi, Albert Einstein, Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne, Petra Kelly, Ho Chi Minh, and many others who carried their struggles based on the philosophy of non-violence.

Mahatma Gandhi is regarded as the father of the human rights movement of the 20th century. The United Nations General Assembly has designated October 2nd, Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday as “International Day of Nonviolence” and India Cultural Centre is organizing various events to commemorate the occasion.

Recently President Ram Nath Kovind has launched a new web portal dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi called “http://gandhi.gov.in” which will give you all the information related to Gandhian literature, philosophy, audio, videos, and his rare photos.

The government has constituted a national committee to deliberate on the commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. During the first six months of celebrations, there will be a series of cultural events. The first leg of the celebration will start with a cycling competition, Padyatra across the country.
