Son and Daughter Day

Son and Daughter Day

The bond between parent and child is like no other on earth, and to bring parents and children together August 11 is celebrated as Son’s and Daughter’s Day. No matter how old the person gets, their parents still see them as their child so grab this day to spend some memorable moments with them. On this day parents all over the world express their appreciation and gratitude to their sons and daughters for being a part of their lives.

Children play a complex role in our lives and each year on August 11, it is important to let them know thankful you are. Among various other family holidays like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparent’s Day and Siblings Day celebrate your Sons and Daughters Day which is one of a kind holiday perfect for all family. It basically celebrates the relationship between parents and their children where you cherish the bond that only children and parents have.

According to an article on August 20, 1944, St. Joseph News-Press/Gazette, in 1936, J Henry Dusenberry first pursued the idea of a Sons’ and Daughters’ Day in Missouri. The following year the celebration from Missouri reached the other 22 states of the United States. The observance starts increasing from year to year with organizations such as the Lions Club and women’s auxiliaries celebrating it.

Then, in 1972, Florida Congressman Claude Pepper submitted a request for the establishment of a Sons’ and Daughters’ Day on behalf of Georgia Paul of Del Rio, Texas. In an article of Nanaimo (British Columbia, Canada) Daily News article dated August 12, 1988, the celebration of National Son’s and Daughter’s Day was found. The exact day when this holiday began is lost to the pages of history.
