World Nature Conservation Day

World Nature Conservation Day

World Nature Conservation Day (WNCD) is observed on July 28th, internationally to promote conservation, encourage sustainability, and increase awareness about protecting nature and natural resources. Nature conservation means protecting nature so that it is not overexploited. It also means using natural resources wisely so that needs of the present generation can be satisfied without compromising future generation’s ability to maximize their own needs.

World Nature Conservation Day recognizes that a healthy environment is a foundation for a stable and productive society and to ensure the well-being of present and future generations, we all must participate to protect, conserve, and sustainably manage our natural resources. Human beings were sent to live on this earth by utilizing nature including water, air, soil, minerals, trees, animals, fire, and gas. With modernization and being wedded to economic pursuits, human beings exploited nature. People are more concerned with the Sensex rather than nature.

Protecting and conserving Natural resources is much more critical today we should learn how to live within planetary boundaries is the most promising strategy for ensuring a healthy future. Human prosperity need not cost the earth. Nature is facing huge problems like deforestation and illegal wildlife trade on the rise. Everyone must promote environment-friendly activities in their daily life to lead a Green Lifestyle.

Some threats to natural resources are deforestation, too much industrial development, pollution, and illegal wildlife trade. Global warming, diseases, natural disasters, the melting of freshwater glaciers, and rising sea levels are all examples of a natural imbalance.

Swachh Bharath Abhiyaan, Project Tiger, Project Elephant, Project Rhino, Project Birds, and Mangroves for the Future (MFF) are some initiatives that India has undertaken to conserve nature.

What can we do for environmental protection?

World Nature Conservation Day July 28

Work to conserve in your own life: recycle, try and use less water and electricity, invest in renewable energy to power your home, plant indigenous trees. The following efforts can be made to protect the environment: –

  • Do not cut the forests. and plant more trees to maintain the ecosystem and to prevent soil erosion.

  • Use available water in the ground only when you need to.

  • Stop the production of intoxicating gases like carbon.

  • Circulate the water used. Install water treatment plants and rainwater harvesting.

  • Limit noise pollution.

  • Use of alternative energy such as solar and wind energy.

  • Discard plastic envelopes and use trash paper bags or cloth bags.

  • Reduce the usage of electricity by turning off the fan and light of the room where there is no one.

  • Do not let the water flow excessively, try to control water wastage. We can reuse the kitchen water for watering the gardens.

  • In today’s Internet age, if we pay all our bills online, it will not only save our time but also save paper and petrol diesel.

  • Walk more and cycle more and try to minimize car use for shorter distances.

  • Use techniques that are positively related to nature. Such as (i) use of organic manure (ii) less use of canned goods.

  • Grow your own vegetables or source locally grown produce.

  • Promote technologies to improve the climate.

  • Resist the intrigues to end the mountain.

  • Support a conservation organization in your area by becoming a member or by making a donation.

This year in 2021 COVID-19, and the forced change it has brought about, may give more perspective on what is really important in life. We need to bring nature back from the brink, as future natural disasters may have an even greater impact on societies and economies. We all need to play a part in the recovery of nature and reducing our profound impact on biodiversity.

For spreading consciousness among the people, observance of the World Nature Conservation Day on 28th July and World Environmental Day on 5th June each year is considered essential. Nature and the environment need to be protected and on this day we need to become conscious of our responsibility towards nature and the environment. We all need to play a part in the protection, conservation, and sustainable practice of the world’s limited natural resources and we can work together and overcome this global issue to protect the environment.
